This is the second of my ‘Bridge Inn’ series of paintings. Like my previous painting in the series, the composition is based in the second room of the semi-derelict barn (located alongside the inn). It contains much accumulated lumber, including old signs and bags – adding some mystery, and interest to the scene. I felt that the light from the window (top right), created some impressive light/shade contrasts. In fact, the use of chiaroscuro is very important to me in my work – especially for greyscale paintings, as the contrasts are more apparent.
