This is one of many preliminary paintings for my large work, Hawarden Mill – painted later in the same year. The wheel house is the most complete part of the mill; and it is the only part to have retained any vestige of a roof – albeit a corrugated sheet one (partially rusted away). Although the building was last inhabited around 1940, it is questionable how long the remaining portion of roof has been in place.
